Happy Week:)

Nin Hao!
(Hello)
Today, Sunday, was the last session in an eight (8) week Chinese language course I have been taking. I learned a lot about Chinese language and culture. I am so confident now, that I can order off a Chinese Menu, conversation should follow shortly! Yeah, right! The language is beautiful with history behind each character but hard to master. I have a lot of work to do.

This week was a very productive week. Mike & I wrote out autobiographies for the social worker. It is pretty amazing what you learn about each other and yourself when forced to answer questions about your life. The hardest question to answer "What do you dislike most about your spouse?" Well Mike & I looked at each other for a long ...........time..........Only........ kidding! There were a lot of questions that made you think about your childhood, parenting, and what you hoped to gain from adoption.

This Saturday we had our sister weekend, yes, sister weekend! After many excuses about how life happens, we decided to take a proactive approach to seeing each other. The goal was to reorganize our home before the social worker comes. Well we got a little closer but did more talking than reorganizing. A special thanks to Elise for putting the safety covers on almost every outlet in the house, so at least, Mike and I are safe from each other. We had a great day with the girls (Jill, Donna, Elise, and Ally), and the boys (Mike and Michael) and the cannoli's. We became professional wiffleball players under the careful coaching of Mike. We were also lucky to have Jill's Mike over. He took the photo that heads this posting and will be one we send to China. The Dossier requires three (3) couple shots and eight (8) family shots.

Well thanks to Mike we are getting closer to compiling the photos we need, so get ready for the holidays, and be dressed to kill, we will be clicking away.

Hi Jilly,
Yes, all of the children are given names if they don't already have them. The first names given to girls revolve around beauty, flowers, and gems (such as jade) while the boys are given more masculine names that revolve around strength, courage, and virtues. The last name originates from the province they were born in.

Hi Jilly,
It really depends on what the name is. I think we will chose a first name but try to keep as much of our child's given name as we can since it is an important tie to where he/she came from.
