Tonight I attended my first quilting class. Our local library was holding a three week beginner quilting class. The class included materials which was just great. Of course I just found out and tonight was week # 2 and next week I will be away for the final class but who cares! What a hoot I had!! There were about ten students, seven students under the age of 13, and well three of us "ladies". I found out about the class while checking out some books from the library this past Sat. The librarian was very sweet and when I told her that I was a BEGINNER and practicing she told me this was the class to take. The quilt teacher was wonderful. I explained that I was making a 100 Good Wishes Quilt for our little one. She took time to sit down with me, offer some tips, give me some easy pattern ideas, and discussed the importance of the....
Come on......
You know what ......
the 1/4 inch seam allowance!!!
I wished the class had been just a little bit longer. I just might have caught up. Oh, well... thats how it goes....
After class, the quilt teacher gave me her business card (something she said she doesn't normally do and no I did not give her the evil eye!). I plan on checking her site tomorrow. She is a member of three different quilt guilds so with any luck, I'll be to find one I'd like to join.
It was so relaxing and stress-free!! plus it was cool to talk with the "ladies" about quilting. (Jackie, you know what I mean!) After, practice quilting for hours at home just listening to the radio it was kind of neat to discuss quilting one on one.
Practice Quilt Update: I have sewed all the bordering squares together. Now I just have to sew them to the rows. Sew the rows together and the TOP will be DONE!!
Stay tuned, I might actually have a photo to post about it soon......

Did you feel old? Was the under 13 crowd WAY better at the seam allowance?
Damn kids.
But hey at least you had fun even if they little sprites showed off a bit.
So tell me...did you feel old??
Old when I looked around at the group, young when I saw how FAST I was:)
Aren't you something?! I really can't keep taking time off from reading blogs. Next thing I know, you'll be TEACHING a quilting class! ;) Now you know how I felt when the 16 yr-old in my group finished her quilt! :) Quilt on! I hope you can find a group in your area that's convenient and fun.
