This weekend I picked up my mom for a Mom's long weekend. We started the day having lunch at our favorite Chinese Buffet "Jani's". I happily watched Mike re-fill his dish more times than I can remember as I sat with big eyes and a full stomach!! We then took off to the too numerous to remember stores, had a small stroke of bad luck...our car was hit in the parking lot while shopping... before arriving home later that night. We opened up a nice bottle of wine, sat down to watch some old black & white horror flicks.... when my beeper went off!
Urgh!
Double Urgh!!
Off to work I go......Within five minutes of leaving home Mike calls to tell me THE POWER is out and here I am going to work... with my mother stuck with my husband....my husband stuck with my mother....in the DARK. Stroke of bad luck number two.
Of course, Mike can not find the candles even though there are candles EVERYWHERE! The flashlights have no batteries, and the only light source comes from Mike's cellphone. Need I say more!
I finally get home sometime around 4am to discover that the power is STILL out, my husband is up....my mother is up...in the DARK... with one candle lit. I immediately go to the frig and put as many items as I can into the freezer and tell Mike..we must get ice and the coolers out of the garage, at which point he reminds me...it is 4 am....
OK is about all I can mumble as I go upstairs and lie in bed waiting for the sun to rise....
The next day
WE pick up ice, pack coolers, throw out what either didn't make the night or doesn't look right. We eat breakfast out...NICE...run to a few stores for last minute Mom items and return for a nice BBQ.
I give Mike our BBQ items...
Mike starts the BBQ...
Stroke of bad luck # 3...
It won't start...
IT WON'T START!!!
Mike tells me we are doomed and I tell him to replace the propane tank.
Mike replaces it...
and
the BBQ...
WORKS!!!
Stroke of good luck number one.
Can you make this up? Absolutely not!
The rest of the day was uneventful although I got a nice pair of shoes on sale. Sweet!
Until....
The best part of the day was when my sister in-law, Annie, gave Mike & I a gift for the baby. I was floored, it was a beautifully hand-crafted rosary which had been made in Jersusalem and blessed by Annie's pastor. It is amazing how blessed we truly are! Everyday small miracles arrive at my doorstep, I could not have asked for a better one:)
We ended our night talking by candle light and awaking to shrieks of noise...
The power is
ON....
and of course I just had to write about our weekend of LIGHTS OUT!
