Don't Worry, Be Scrappy
This past weekend I began the process of creating a scrapbook to display the beautiful wishes we have received through the various quilt swaps we have participated in. This is what I have accomplished so far...
Plan #1: Visit AC Moore to look at scrapbooking supplies
Result: Spent $$$$
Plan #2: Create a themed scrapbook for Pastel & Star Swap
Result: Done! Just needs finishing touches and cover for scrapbook
Plan #3: Start layouts for State & China Province Swaps
Result: In-progress, created layouts for about 12 pages.
Now before I started I needed the following supplies:
• Portable paper trimmer
• Small scissors
• Black archival pen for journaling
• Pencil
• Pencil sharpener
• Art gum eraser
• Paper adhesive
• Photo adhesive
• Portable container to store all of the above tools
In the supplies department I didn't do too bad. I had everything but the portable paper trimmer, small scissors, and archival pen.
In addition, I still need embellishments, a circle/oval cutter, vellum paper, and a diecut machine.
Thats all!!
Thats all!!
I am a girl on a budget. I am a girl on a budget. I am a girl on a budget. I am a girl on a budget.
I wonder if I keep saying that will I eventually hear myself talking?
I am a procrastinator, have been all my life, and part of the reason it took so long to get started on the scrapbooks was the amount of time I felt would be needed to start and finish these projects. Well I took out my handy-dandy Scrapbooking for Dummies Guide and visited a scrapbooking site at about.com looking for tips and an editor at the website suggested:
1. Place most of your photos in a box (Not a problem, I have hundreds of photos in a box)
2. Start your scrapbook in a non-chronological order (I am an expert at any type of disorder)
3. Let go of the creative process (Problem,I'm still trying to find it!)
4. Spend less time (It will never get done at this rate!)
I have made some progress but not enough to be satisified. There are some State Wishes that need to be worked on. Alterations to be made, etc...
What I found to be the hardest part was creating some type of system just to get started. The State Wishes were pretty easy afterall my swap-mates did most of the work. The problem is that some of the wishes are prepared in a card or flip-up type wish. You can't display the whole wish with that type of set-up. I have some scanning to do for sure....
I also realized I didn't have enough State embellishments to get by and I haven't even started the China Province part of the scrapbook. I have decided to do half the book in State Wishes and then flip so the other half of the book is in China Province Wishes. I am pretty confident I have enough fabric to cover the State Side of the Scrapbook but haven't a clue what fabric to choose for the China Province side.
Decisions.... Decisions....Decisions....
And I still have to learn how to sew! Will the quilts ever get done? Stay tuned.....

I found the hardest part to be setting up and organizing. Most months, no sooner would I get set up then I would have to take down. This was the first time in years that I have made any real progress. Yesterday I did another 12 pages and frankly if I am good today and tomorrow - I could finish the whole thing before I leave town on Sunday. Freaky. Years in the making. To darn expensive. But the end is finally in sight!
